As AI advances and grows in usability, it’s becoming increasingly apparent that it will be used in our everyday and working lives. But should you write your CV with AI?
Here at Synergi, we’ve been seeing a number of CVs come through that have been written by AI. We spend the time reading through each CV that comes to us, to assess suitability for the engineering roles we recruit for – however the average time spent reading new CVs is 6-7 seconds. Hiring managers are time-poor, so will skim read through your CV to identify top takeaways including work achievements, your growth potential and relevant experience.
The ultimate aim of your CV is to present your skills and experience to secure you a role suitable for you. The concern we have, is the growing number of CVs that we’re seeing generated by AI. We want to help our candidates stand out against the crowd to land them the dream engineering job – but if everyone is using the same large language model, it will inevitably generate a lot of similarities. Standing out against the crowd using AI-generated CVs will be difficult. However, using AI tools to help you build your CV can be a valuable exercise.
Our advice when using AI to write your CV
- Make sure your CV best represents you. Don’t let the final draft of your CV be generated by AI – check through everything written and make sure it’s accurate as AI can make mistakes.
- There are many ways of structuring your CV and representing your work history and expertise, this isn’t always accurately presented on large language models.
- Hiring managers are human – the best way to find out the latest most current information on what hiring managers are looking for on a CV is to speak with recruitment consultants.
It can be a helpful tool for structuring and directing content, but our advice is to not replace your input with AI.
How to use AI to help build your CV
