Our client is one of the world's largest leading manufacturers, they have a presence in all the leading supermarkets in the UK and are expanding.
We are seeking a Mechanically Biased Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a large-scale, highly automated manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on role suited to an engineer who is mechanically strong, confident fault-finding machinery, and comfortable supporting basic electrical maintenance. You will be responsible for maintaining production and packaging equipment, responding to breakdowns, completing planned maintenance and helping improve equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across production equipment.
Diagnose and repair mechanical and basic electrical faults.
Maintain pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, bearings, chains, belts and mechanical drives.
Work with pneumatic and hydraulic systems, valves, pipework and mechanical seals.
Strip down, repair, rebuild and align mechanical equipment.
Respond effectively to breakdowns and production issues.
Identify root causes of recurring equipment failures.
Support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.
Complete maintenance records using a CMMS.
Support minor engineering projects and equipment modifications.
Work closely with Production and other engineering disciplines.
Follow all health and safety, LOTO and safe isolation procedures.
Strong hands-on mechanical maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment.
Experience working with automated production machinery.
Good fault-finding and diagnostic abilities.
Experience with pumps, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, motors and mechanical drives.
Experience with planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
The ability to diagnose why equipment has failed rather than simply replace components.
Basic to intermediate electrical fault-finding skills.
Confidence working with motors, sensors, inverters, control panels and single/three-phase equipment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
A recognised engineering apprenticeship or qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC/HND or equivalent.
Strong health and safety awareness and a practical, team-focused approach.
FMCG, food, beverage, brewing, packaging, pharmaceutical or other process/manufacturing experience.
Experience with PLC fault-finding and electrical drawings.
CMMS experience.
Root-cause analysis and continuous improvement experience.
5S / Kaizen experience.
Experience working with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Experience supporting high-volume, automated production environments.
