Job Role & Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Engineer / Engineering Technician will provide hands-on, high-level engineering support during the PM shift, ensuring production and site assets operate efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with food safety, quality, and health & safety standards. Acting as the senior technical presence on shift, the role supports maintenance delivery, fault resolution, and continuous improvement activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out planned preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance across production, packing, and site equipment
Diagnose and resolve complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and control system faults
Minimise downtime through effective fault analysis and corrective action
Support OEE, asset reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives
Fault-find and maintain PLC-controlled systems, motors, drives, sensors, and electrical panels
Maintain mechanical systems including conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, pneumatics, and heavy machinery
Assist with equipment upgrades, installations, and engineering-led improvement projects
Support and oversee contractors, ensuring compliance with permits, risk assessments, and procedures
Maintain audit-ready engineering standards aligned with food safety, hygiene, and H&S requirements
Accurately record work using CMMS and complete documentation, permits, and handovers
Act as a senior technical role model and provide guidance to colleagues when required
The Ideal Candidate will have:
NVQ Level 4 or higher in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering
Proven experience in a multi-skilled engineering role within FMCG or food manufacturing
Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding capability
Experience working with PLC systems and control circuits
Solid understanding of planned maintenance, OEE, and asset reliability
Experience using CMMS systems
Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently
Desirable Skills:
18th Edition Electrical qualification
Food safety, HACCP, TACCP, or GMP certifications
IOSHH qualification
Experience working with heavy machinery and high-care manufacturing environments
