Job Role & Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer plays a hands-on, technical leadership role within the engineering team, ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of production and site assets in a high-care FMCG environment. Acting as the technical lead on shift, the role supports planned and reactive maintenance, continuous improvement, and compliance with food safety and health & safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out planned preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance across production and packaging equipment
Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and control system faults to minimise downtime
Support continuous operation of production lines and utilities
Improve asset reliability and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)
Fault-find and maintain electrical systems, including PLC-controlled equipment
Support equipment upgrades, line modifications, and new installations
Supervise and coordinate contractors in line with site procedures and H&S requirements
Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and engineering standards (BRC, HACCP, GMP, etc.)
Accurately record maintenance activities using the CMMS and maintain audit-ready documentation
Act as a role model for safe working, best practice, and technical standards
The Ideal Candidate will have:
NVQ Level 3 or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi-Skilled Engineering
Proven experience in a multi-skilled maintenance role within FMCG or food manufacturing
Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding capability
Experience working with PLC systems
Knowledge of PPM systems and CMMS platforms
Understanding of food manufacturing compliance and BRC standards
Strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously
Desirable Skills:
18th Edition Electrical qualification
Food Safety qualifications (e.g. CIEH Level 3)
HACCP, TACCP, GMP, or IOSHH certification
Experience in high-care environments and with heavy mechanical machinery
