Job Role & Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Engineer responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving plant equipment and mechanical systems to ensure operational reliability, safety, and compliance in a heavy industrial environment. Work across planned and reactive maintenance on a continental shift pattern.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on plant and production equipment
Diagnose mechanical faults, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions to minimise downtime
Maintain and repair heavy industrial machinery including kilns, rollers, mixers, and conveyors
Perform mechanical strip-downs, rebuilds, and inspections in line with legislative and site standards
Maintain high housekeeping standards and accurately complete maintenance documentation
Escalate mechanical or safety issues as needed
Support weekend work and attend training courses when required
The Ideal Candidate will have:
Time-served Mechanical Engineering qualification (Apprenticeship / NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent)
Proven industrial maintenance experience (FMCG or heavy industry preferred)
Welding (MIG/MMA), hot works, hydraulic & pneumatic systems experience
Competent using workshop machinery, working at height, and abrasive wheels
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or in a team
